Italian cuisine

This elementary composed Italian salad is not really as simple as it may seem at first glance.

If you are lucky enough to be in Italy in the tomato season;
if you find the real mozzarella made from water buffalo milk instead of cow's milk;
If mozzarella would be no older than one day (mozzarella giornata);
then you will only buy young green basil grown in the earth and genuine extra-virgin olive oil.

Now you have all the chances to experience the taste and brilliant simplicity of real Insalata Caprese.

To prepare 4 servings you will need:

4 vine-ripened tomatoes
300 g mozzarella giornata
1 cup young green basil leaves
3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
salt to taste

The most popular method of serving Caprese salad is alternating with slices of tomato and mozzarella at a thickness of about ¼ inch. You can compose your salad in the same way, add salt to taste, sprinkle with olive oil and place sweet basil leaves on top.
Many Italians prefer remove the seeds from the tomatoes.

Since local ripe tomatoes and young basil leaves are required for real Caprese salad, it can be attributed to the group of summer salads. The rich flavors and mixture of fresh foods do not require any additional components and spices.

If you have not yet been to Italy, you can always buy the main components of Caprese salad at the local supermarket. In this case, however, the salad ingredients will not be so aromatic and the salad will require additional ingredients and spices to enhance the taste.
