The Sicilian pesto sauce should be red in color and pungent in taste.
Therefore, the essential components of this sauce are tomatoes and chili.
Add to this base pesto ingredients of Parmesan, olive oil, nuts, coarse salt and you're ready to prepare the Sicilian Pesto sauce.
Optional ingredients are any spices and ingredients to your taste, such as different peppers, garlic, red onion and herbs.

Sicilian Pesto Sauce |
This is one of the many possible Sicilian pesto sauce recipes:
1. Grind nuts, chili peppers and garlic in a food processor.
2. Add basil leaves, extra-virgin olive oil and coarse salt; pulse repeatedly until smooth.
3. Add grated Parmesan and blend.
4. Pour the pesto sauce into large bowl.
5. Peel the tomatoes and finely chop them removing the stems.
6. Mix chopped tomatoes with pesto and serve.
Sicilian Pesto Sauce is more frequently served with various pasta dishes.
