Chicken & Sauerkraut Pie recipe

For this recipe you will need:
*** Dough:
1 C water
2 eggs
2 tbsp sugar
1tsp salt
5 C flour
3 tbsp sunflower oil
2 tsp yeast
¼ C butter
*** Filling:
1 chicken in pieces
18 oz sauerkraut
1 onion, finely chopped
3 tbsp tomato paste
1 egg for egg wash
vegetable oil for frying and greasing

Instructions:

Prepare the filling:

1. Debone chicken, cube pieces and brown in vegetable oil.

2. Add sauerkraut, cover and cook over low heat until tender.

3. Add chopped onion, tomato paste to chicken and sauerkraut; cover and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Prepare the dough:

1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl.

2. Add sugar, salt, eggs, butter and oil; mix well.

3. Create a dough by adding flour a little at a time until the mixture is the consistency of thick cream.

4. Let dough mixture rise for 40-50 minutes in a warm place. The dough should be 2-3 times its original size.

5. Add the rest of the flour while stirring. Kneed until the dough is no longer sticky. Allow to rise again.

6. Separate bread dough into two pieces. Roll out one half to the size of your baking dish.

Prepare the pie:

1. Grease baking dish.

2. Place bread dough into the bottom of your baking dish.

3. Add filling.

4. Roll out second piece of bread dough. Cut into strips and place over the top of the filling to form the top crust. You can be creative and create any type of design you want.

5. In a bowl, whisk one egg lightly; brush over top crust.

6. Bake for 40-50 minutes at 200°C or 390°F.
